Power companies are looking for ways to increase their generation charges. If you are not cautious about your usage, you may be spending thousands of dollars in your electricity. The good news is that you can save money by using energy efficient light bulbs. This can reduce your electricity consumption while helping the environment at the same time.
In Singapore, we have the Recycle-a-Bulb Initiative. Here are the details:
Background
The Recycle-a-Bulb initiative is a first which encourages Singaporeans to recycle their used light bulbs. Many people here think that used light bulbs should be thrown. They are not aware that used light bulbs can be recycled. Since used light bulbs are difficult to recycle, it is now included in the list of recycled products.
The Beneficiaries
This initiative will benefit low-income families and households, by providing them with energy-efficient light bulbs that will help them save money and energy. Residents should know that when they recycle their light bulbs, they will receive a voucher. The voucher will serve as their ticket to get discounted energy efficient light bulbs.
The Goal
The initiative seeks to generate more than 2000 energy efficient light bulbs to be given to more than 500 low income households. It does not end there because seniors will also be given energy efficient light bulbs.
The Solution
The government is looking into long-term solutions, but in the meantime, residents can put their used light bulbs in designated recycling bins. Note that it is important that you place your bulbs in the appropriate bins. You can start dropping your used light bulbs at thirty RC (Residents Committee) centres.
Residents should also be reminded that the recycling of papers and clothing still continue. Just look for the right bin. Please participate in this initiative. If you do not want to participate, at least do not interfere with the system.
