The horror in Boston Marathon was not a hindrance for other people to enjoy runs. In fact, here in Singapore, the Straits Times in cooperation with National Parks Board organized a run that has exceeded the 10,000 contestant mark. Boston Marathon did not keep avid runners off the streets.
The Straits Times Run will be held on August 25, 2013. The run will commence at the North Eastern Loop which will continue to Punggol Waterway. The running course will offer scenic views of Serangoon and Punggol reservoirs. If you want to participate in the run, you can choose to sign up for competitive runs (10km and 15km) and fun run (5km).
This is Straits Time’s first running event so they are overwhelmed with the support of the public. The deadline for signups is July 15. There is still plenty of time to sign up. If you want to participate in the activity, you should sign up at once. You can also invite your family and friends. It will be fun!
Here are the things that you need to remember when you participate in any runs:
Stretching
Your muscles will surely sore when you run directly. To reduce the pain and discomfort, do some stretching first. If possible, start running before the main event that way your body can get used to it.
Proper running attire
Of course there is prescribed running attire. You should follow it. Get your ringlet from organizers. You should wear rubber shoes.
In a small belt bag, bring necessary things
You don’t need to bring water because there are water stations available throughout the course. You can bring a small belt bag that will keep your mobile phones, towel and band aids.
