Technology is a gift to humanity that makes a lot of things possible for all of us. Google is one of the pioneers that are studying and researching on a more advanced form of technology.
Google has a project that envisions to make cars that drive by themselves. This project involves the initiative of developing and researching on technology that will make cars run efficiently without a human driver.
Another update has been made on this project. According to the head of Google’s self-driving cars project, in 5 years’ time, real people will be able to use these self-driving cars in public places.
The cars used will still be test automobiles used in order for Google to collect substantial data on how these cars interact when there are pedestrians involved in the mix.
Currently, according to Chris Urmson, head of the project, Google is working on sensors that will help the vehicle detect the presence of other cars and road signs. In addition to this, the software that will analyze all these data is also in the works. As of today, these Google cars are being tested in a facility owned by Google in California.
There is no fixed date for the availability of these driverless automobiles. Urmson explained that they are more concerned on ensuring that these cars are safe enough to be used in public places by real people.
One hurdle in the success of this research is the hesitance of the state and lawmakers to let the cars test in public because according to current laws, a driverless car must still have a steering wheel and pedals.
