As parents, it is difficult for us to see our kids struggling from any form of illness or disorder. It pains us to see them suffer even for a short time. It is good if it is easily treatable because we will know that in no time, they will be back to normal. But what if our kid is suffering from a more serious disorder like ADD/ADHD?
It is important to be well informed about our kid’s situation so that we will how to proceed. The first thing that we should do is observe our kid and see if they are exhibiting ADD/ADHD symptoms like hyper activeness, impulsiveness, demanding or attracting attention, disobeying parent’s order, disorganized and easily distracted. If they are manifesting these symptoms, we should endure until they get better. We can begin by considering the following things:
Be positive and stay healthy
As parents, we should act strong and remain positive no matter how difficult it is. Our kids look up to us and whatever they see, they will follow. If they see that we are positive and healthy, they will follow our lead. It is important to show to our kid that whatever their condition is, they are still loved and wanted.
Establish rules and routine
Kids with ADD/ADHD tend to disobey rules and orders. It is imperative that we carry out strong routines and make sure to stick to it. If possible, we should design a schedule that should be strictly followed by our kids. If they are good, praise and rewards will do.
Persuade healthy eating, promote action and encourage sleep
Kids in general need to eat healthy so that they can carry out different activities. Kids with ADD/ADHD have a lot of energy to spare. By encouraging them to move and play, they will shift their energy and attention the healthy way. Getting enough sleep can help improve the kid’s attentiveness.
