Accessories can complete your outfit. But whether they look good on you or not depends on how you mix and match different pieces with your clothes. You might need to let go of some accessories that make you look ten years older than you actually are.
Too Many Accessories
Wearing too many pieces all at once will not only make you look overdressed but it can be uncomfortable. Sometimes one statement piece is enough. You don’t have to complete a set of earrings, bracelet, rings and necklace. Wear one item that will act like a centerpiece.
Wristwatch Over Bracelet
Bracelets can look trendy and cool when they complement the right outfit. Other women, however, wear bangles and clasps when not needed. Unless you’re dressing up as a fortune teller, avoid wearing too many bracelets. Avoid chunky pieces with huge stones or crystals. Go instead for a wristwatch. It’s classic and utilitarian too.
Over-sized Jewelry
There is nothing impressive about wearing huge accessories unless you’re trying to attract snatchers. Don’t place accessories where you don’t want people to focus on. If you have a short, fat neck for example, don’t wear a pearl necklace. Huge rings are uncomfortable and not stylish. Never wear drop earrings if your head looks smaller than the set stones. Dangling earrings are ideal only for women with long, slim necks.
Avoid Blazers and Cardigans
Don’t wear blazers and cardigans to hide your shapeless torso and hips. They shouldn’t be your go-to clothing to cover up bulges at your sides. They will just make you look lumpy and wider, quite the opposite of what you’re intending to do. Instead, choose clean-cut jackets for your office outfit.
Avoid Matching Sets
Too much jewelry doesn’t look good. Wearing a matching set can be considered a less offensive fashion crime, but you should still avoid it. You’re not attending a party all the time or modeling for a jewelry company. Mix and match accessories instead.
Avoid Pearls
Not that pearls are a bad choice, but they can only be worn on certain special occasions. They’re not ideal for a walk through the park for example. If you still want to wear pearls, match it up with other metals to give it a more modern look.
Avoid Sequins
Whether you like a shiny shirt, shoes or bag, try limit the use of the glitters. Sequins can make you look older if there’s too much shine in your outfit already. Sequins, however, are perfect for special occasions like parties.
Avoid Draping
Layering an outfit is different from draping. Layering is done with color-matching in mind, but draping is just hiding parts of your body you don’t want people staring at. Try not to wear skin-tight outfits, but don’t wear baggy clothes either. Your body’s form can be cheated using silhouettes that emphasize curves.
