If you live with boring white walls and want to change it, having new paint colors can really change your home’s mood and interior design. Perhaps the only downside to it is that depending on the size of your walls and ceilings, it can take a while to dray.
But the good news is painting your home in Singapore doesn’t have to be as tedious when you know what you’re doing and you have the right materials and tools for the job.
Here are a few tips you need to know about when painting your home:
1. Prepare the area
Painting is much easier when there’s nothing in the way, and this means emptying out the area. But if this isn’t possible, try to move them to the center of the room or cover them with a cloth or material that will keep the paint off of them, such as plastic wrap.
Preparing also means wiping the walls down before applying the initial priming coat, getting rid of dust and debris, and filling up any nail holes and cracks.
2. Paint the ceiling first before the walls
Whether it’s applying the primer or the topcoat, always start with the highest point and then work your way down. This way, you’ll make fewer mistakes, and any paint that drips downward will be easier to manage.
It also takes the strain off your neck and back since you’re spending less time looking up when painting, and you’ll thank yourself for it.
3. Brush before using the roller
Start any work surface with a high quality brush to paint specific areas that a roller can’t reach, such as corners and baseboards. Only after painting these areas can you use the rollers for larger areas, which will provide you with a flatter, more uniform wall.
Reminder: you can change your paints
While this may seem obvious, you won’t always think this when you realize that the paint you first chose doesn’t look as well when hit with a different light. Instead, you would think that it’s too expensive to start over again.
But it’s not really – you can still change the paint even after it dries. However, if the finish has already been applied, you may have to scrape off the paint.
You can also experiment with your paint color scheme. While darker colors add more depth and texture to large rooms, smaller rooms with little to no natural light might benefit better from lighter and brighter hues of paint.
If all else fails, you can always count on a professional painting service to get the job done much faster and more easily.
